Thermal Energy
Thermal Energy or heating includes hot water for across campus and building heating in winter. The University operates a district heating network which delivers heat to campus through local boilers and centralised combined heat and power (CHP) engines.
Thermal Demand
In 25/26, the University had an approximate total thermal demand of xx,xxx MWh, which is equivalent to xxx typical 2鈥3-bedroom UK homes [11 MWh].
This thermal demand is a xx% change compared to 24/25. This was due to ??? weather leading to a xx% change in heating degree days on the previous years.
Reducing Wastage
Significant improvements have been made through the implementation of the Energy Policy over recent years through collaboration between teams within Estates and wider University Departments.
This aims to reduce wastage through鈥.
Each day the Energy and Sustainability team checks and analyses data from thousands of meters we have on campus, tackling inefficiencies and spotting potential issues early.
For the 2025/26 academic year we prevented heat wastage to the equivalence of:
- [On Campus Location]
- Heating xxx typical 2鈥3-bedroom UK homes,
- Heating xxx ultra-efficient Passivhaus homes,
- Provide xxx,xxx hot showers.
This avoided xxx tonnes of CO鈧 emissions 鈥 the emissions from driving a petrol car xxx million kilometres (xxx times around the globe!)
